ELLE – Sexual Energy

Learn to work with your sexual energy. Tantric practices can help you experience deeper orgasms and create a more fulfilling relationship.

When manager Alena and her partner discovered tantra years ago, she says her entire life changed. “Today I experience feelings I never thought possible. Everything is more intense and real,” she says, explaining that she can now experience long waves of ecstasy and feel much closer to her partner. “It taught me to open up and not be afraid,” she adds.

Tantra itself is still shrouded in mystery. Many people associate this ancient Indian teaching only with the development of sexual energy but that’s just a “side effect.” Its true purpose is to cultivate consciousness and personal growth. According to tantra teacher Manguri (civil name Petr Šindelář), the essence lies in mindful awareness becoming conscious of automatic processes and learning to direct them. Through tantra, a fleeting orgasm lasting seconds can become a state of full-body ecstasy lasting many minutes. “Sometimes I see colors and feel so much energy that I’m like a living power plant,” Alena says. Tantra, unlike conventional sex, doesn’t end with climax: “It’s endless pleasure without a beginning or end it simply flows. Orgasm often frustrates people because they know everything stops afterwards,” she adds.

Intimacy and honesty
Alena discovered her sexual energy exactly as her tantra teachers advised through openness. The foundation of tantra is honesty with yourself and your partner. “You can’t have great sex without being truthful with each other,” Manguri explains. From a tantric perspective, a fulfilling partnership means complete transparency: sharing feelings, fears, and vulnerabilities. “If you suppress them, you’ll never truly meet each other,” he says.

Alena agrees: “If you want to experience something extraordinary, you have to surrender completely and reveal yourself emotionally. It makes you more vulnerable but also more authentic.”

Tantra also teaches control of one’s body. “It’s based on consciously working with sexual energy through muscular awareness,” says Manguri. For beginners, the most important are the pelvic floor muscles surrounding the genitals the source of sexual energy. He recommends training them daily: “Tense and release them about 150 times a day for two seconds each,” he advises. Strengthening this area allows energy to flow throughout the entire body creating the possibility of a full-body orgasm.

The power of ritual
Creating rituals that honor sexuality is another key aspect. “For us Europeans it may seem strange, since our culture often glorifies celibacy as the highest form of spirituality. Yet these rituals are deeply symbolic and powerful,” says Manguri. In India, temples honor the union of the feminine and masculine through sacred symbols; in the West, couples can create their own rituals to open to love, pleasure, or deeper connection.

Alena swears by these practices: “From time to time my partner and I set aside a few hours just for ourselves. We let go of everything else and perform rituals that honor my femininity and the energy I discovered through tantra. Thanks to it, I’ve come to understand what it truly means to be a woman.”

From massage to ecstasy
You can also awaken sexual energy through tantric massage, offered at specialized studios (such as www.tantramasaze.com). A properly performed tantric massage touches not only the body but also the psyche. “The goal is well-being, but the path may involve releasing stored pain the body remembers experiences of neglect or hurt,” warns Manguri. During massage, emotions such as sadness or anger may arise a natural part of healing and release.

Using warm aromatic towels, soft feathers, fur, and gentle oil techniques, the therapist helps you reach a state of deep calm, safety, and eventually passion. For those ready, the session may also include intimate massage performed with utmost respect and mindfulness. Tantra sees the genitals as sacred and rich in reflex points that influence the entire body. Though intimate, the process feels natural; orgasm, if it comes, is simply an organic completion of the ritual.

For couples, tantra workshops (see www.tantra.cz) offer an ideal way to explore these principles, learn meditation, and practice exercises that open awareness. “A course is the easiest entry point to understanding tantra,” says Manguri. “From there, it’s up to each person how deeply they choose to expand their consciousness and connect with their own sexual energy.”
