A Woman’s Personal Journey to Tantra (Helena describes her path toward tantric understanding)

01.08.2024
In her story, Helena describes the journey through which she discovered the joy of touch, freedom, and authentic connection with herself and others. This article gently guides you through how the fear of the unknown can transform into deep inner joy — and why tantric massage is more than a technique; it is a ritual of reverence for the body, aliveness, and human closeness.

Touch is, for me, a world of silence a sacred space without limits, where words can no longer manipulate.

Sometimes you know nothing about tantra, and yet one day, something nudges you. Someone you trust might casually mention: “What about a tantra course? That could be just what you’re looking for.” So you decide to try. Yes, you’ve lived through a few relationships, you know something about sexuality, touch, intimacy, partnership but it’s all somehow scattered and incomplete.

Why not, then, see with your own eyes what this ancient word tantra really means a word that to many still evokes exotic postures from the Kama Sutra. Is it for me at all? Confusion comes with hesitation, even fear of the unknown what have I gotten myself into this time? Yet nothing happens by chance, and suddenly you find yourself in the middle of your first seminar. Perhaps a little anxious, a little tense, mostly because what is offered here is a chance to let go of that tension and you simply don’t know how yet.

And so, slowly, you learn simply to be natural, unforced. Those Kama Sutra poses are still far away. You learn to look at other people, to stand before them and truly see them, to breathe in their rhythm, to touch them lightly, to feel them. You learn to sense and enjoy your own body how it starts to dance, to move in waves, or to expand into wild, limitless freedom; how a quiet inner joy arises, one that needs no audience and fears no judgment. It comes gradually, gently, as layer after layer of old blocks are revealed the ones left by well-meaning parents, by culture, or perhaps by a painful breakup.

You begin to understand that tantra is, above all, about opening to freedom, to beauty, to your own light, to expression, to the simple right to joy and sensual pleasure. And here, finally, we touch on sexuality the peak of joy and aliveness. Whether we deny it or not, it is our inner fire, the force that nourishes and animates us, that leads us somewhere often where the mind would not dare to go. It is a power we often sell short, suppress, misuse, or lock away in secret chambers though it is, in truth, completely innocent. At least when we see it that way.

Then comes the day when you find yourself at yet another seminar, and what once seemed unusual now feels human and natural while what the world calls normal suddenly seems dull, constrained. You experience moments when you set aside your roles, and an immense relief floods your being. Deep inside, this is how we’ve always longed to feel…

We all go through this, sooner or later, now or someday. Tantra is not only a journey into one’s sexuality, but also into connection with others. What we discover within ourselves, we can offer to others like a cake on a golden tray. Nothing more. Endless exploration sometimes tender and quiet, sometimes painful as old wounds resurface, sometimes joyful and explosive but always real.

For those who have tasted it, it becomes a joy to guide others on this path of discovery and reverence for the body. Respect and humility are essential, for the giver the masseuse or masseur knows well how much courage it takes to open up and offer oneself to the world beyond the shell. And they also know it’s worth it.

It doesn’t matter what we look like tall or short, slim or full, young or old. We are who we are, and every curve, every shape has its meaning. We long to be accepted just as we are not hidden behind makeup or masks. That’s why tantric massage is, above all, a ritual of reverence for the body, rather than a massage in the conventional sense. Ideally, it becomes a mysterious, indescribable blend a healing cocktail of energy, vitality, and human closeness.

Tantra sets no rigid rules, no commands. For a woman, it is a natural path, as natural as water to a fish. For a man, it is a softening force that lies beyond reason, concepts, or words. I am deeply grateful that I am allowed, through touch, to enter again and again into contact with something so profoundly human.
